One Way to Lose Customers
Engage Brain before clicking "Send"

E-Mail is a powerful business tool, letting you carefully compose your thoughts to others with unlimited re-writes.
Unfortunately, many business users of e-mail fail to consider the potential problems they may create by not considering what they are sending. BEFORE you click on that "send" button ask yourself the following: - Am I willing to see this e-mail on a BillBoard?
Too often we write e-mail without realizing that they can be resent, word for word. Somethimes this happens accidentally, when someone clicks "Send to ALL" when they meant to send it only to one person. Other times it is intentional - Someone forwards e-mail that may have been intended ONLY for that person. It could be a joke or improper comment or image, but no one is laughing when you are called in on the carpet to explain youself.
Worse, if your e-mail can be considered some form of harrassment you could lose your job or face a lawsuit.
If you are not willing to have your e-mail appear on a Billboard you better not send it!
- Is this REALLY the message I want to send?
When people speak there is something that helps convey the emotion of their words... Their Tone of Voice. When you send words in an e-mail you do not have that benefit to more clearly get your point accross. What you think when you type something is not always how it comes across.
You should make it a point in business communications of all types to Remove Emotional Comments Remember the BillBoard!!
- Protect Privacy
It seems like an obvious commnent, doesn't it? And yet every day people will hand out an e-mail address without regard for the privacy of the holder of that address. Some Examples: - Web Sites
You might think that Bob's Special Web Site is awesome, but when Bob's Web site asks you to "send this to a friend JUST SAY NO. Links like these are used to harvest e-mail addresses, and your customer doesn't want to have his address sold and spammed!
